The Pro-Life Universe
In the beginning the universe was pro-life. Its laws were finely tuned to promote the evolution of creatures capable of pondering the laws of physics. This property has become known as the Anthropic Principle. A small fraction of a microsecond after the big bang, the universe underwent a brief burst of rapid inflation which allowed matter to escape LeMaitre's "primordial atom". Although this was essential to the later rise of life, if it had continued the universe would have become too dilute to allow the large scale structure which is also essential to life. Fortunately, after another small fraction of a microsecond, the universe made a transition to a much milder inflation consistent with the predictions of what would have been required to allow life to emerge. Many other features of physical law are also, within narrow bounds, precisely those that promote life. At the pinnacle of life's evolution is the human species.
Consequently, Physicists for Life feel compelled to do all in their power to defend human life from the beginning of each human organism to natural death. The alternative would be seen as a crime against the universe.
As a corollary each person should be guaranteed the necessary support to ensure that no circumstance should make it seem that he or she has no choice but to destroy a human life at any stage in its development. This is one of the tenets of the Democrats for Life of America.
